Kind of Play

Competitive
Social Reduction board game
Design Values

For this group project, our D & D style Among us board games(not yet decided on the name), is a murder mystery game that involved a physical board during the gameplay. It is a multiplayer game for a minimum of 4 players up to 10 players. The game is inspired by among us which is structured with strategy and decision making. The game does have similar rules compared to the original among us, but the most independent part is we will have a game master in our game.
In each round, players and the imposters will be given steps to move on the board, every player can decide where they want to go during the gameplay, but they can only tell the game master in a black room what is their order and where they are going. After that, players will be gathered around separate by different locations you are at and discuss what they see and what they do.
The core experience we want to provide to the players is a visible map that gives more context to the players, deepening the game and adding levels of complexity, and making the player think deeper, and plan more during the play.
Design Tools

Context of play- D & D style Among us board game
Goal- Players should complete the task or guest who is the imposter to win the game. Imposters should survive and killed players until the end to win the game
Constraint- Every player will be given a number of steps to move in each round by GM
Challenge- The game is full of lies, be sensitive and need to break the lie
Decision making- Players will be given chances to vote on who is the imposter
After the first playtest, we decide to change the vent into different locations to make the gameplay flow more fluent and cut out the awkward situation since this is a board game, not like the original online game
The final gameplay test went smoothly and ends with a good result, however after reading the feedback, there are a few questions we think to consider to make this board game even better!
Questions To Considered

How does the Zoom platform affect the gameplay experience in a social deduction game? Does the function of mute, breakout room discussion work during the gameplay? Or does it make the gameplay more complicated?
Does adding a GM in the gameplay slower the time flow too much that affects the gaming experience? Or does it provide a new style of gameplay that fulfills the element and makes the game more interesting and thoughtful
How do you feel about having a minimum of 4 players in a social deduction game? Will it be a bit awkward when the game finished in just a few rounds? Or do you think it still achieves the criteria of game testing?
