Although public transportation use isn't as high and packed as it was in March, I still feel afraid. Mostly because you don't know how seriously other people in the same environment have taken the pandemic.

INTRO
The pandemic has forced us to isolate ourselves from the world for so long, and one of the consequences causes us is feeling insecure when staying outside or using public facilities. Feeling of insecurity makes people worried and anxious. I started to focus on this part and decide my overall campaign strategy: THE KEY HERE IS A CELEBRATION OF FRESH, CONFIDENT, & REBIRTH

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
In 2020, more and more people started to search for cleaning devices that help them to stay clean & safe. Lots of research provide ways to make you not explode in danger, like the technology used for sanitizing, air purifying, or classic alcohol cleaner. These things are used to protect us, but at the same time, we lose connections with others. At this point, I decided to design a brand new product that can bring back the living quality in the city, and the first step is to reclaim confidence while using public transportation, Citibike.

Below here are the copy strategies. I showed the mood board and what kind of tone I would like to be involved in my campaign: Ready for the rebirth city, confidence while staying on the street using the public bike, and ride with us safely

This is the dialogue that shows the concern on how people react to the public bike: In most cases, people get over re-acted because of the concern of “public” since it is designed for the public, no one knows is the person before you clean or not or maybe he/or she has already got infected

FOR WHOM?

POSITION STATEMENT

This is GoPure, A sanitizing device that enables integration into the docking system and automatically cleans the handlebar that won’t waste too much labor force in the city.

RESEARCH PHASE
Research the methods for sanitizing, with the main category of heat, steam, hot water, and radiation.

SOLUTION
I come up with the solution using radiation: the UVC technology and make it a core to modified my design to see how the mechanism functions and how to make it integrated into my design

DESIGN PROCESS
The process began with the observation in the city during the pandemic. As a designer who is obsessed with clean energy used transportation in the city, I noticed that lots of people are hesitant to use the public bike because no one knows if the handlebar is clean or not. After the observation, I have decided my point of entry for my thesis: Although public transportation use isn't as high and packed as it was in March, I still feel afraid. Mostly because no one knows how seriously other people have taken the pandemic. In the ideation phase, I did sketches to pull out ideas I have in mind and started to do foam core, chipboard prototype model that integrates with the bike station and tests out the scale and mechanics on how it works. Also, interview with professions to test out basic mechanics. This step took over 30 different experiment mock-ups to have my final refine design, GoPure. Once I finished the testings of materials and process, I did CAD models and renderings that can best represent the product in the context and did final refinement on the design itself.

HOW IT WORKS
GoPure is a sanitizing product integrated with Citi bike stations. The Pure-light technology will operate electrochemical processes that generate a specific invisible wavelength of 253.7 nm and killed the surface virus particles by emitting the UVC light. When the bike is parked at the station, the sanitizing device will automatically cover the handlebar emit the UVC light, and sanitize it to leave it safer for the next user. The final outcome comes with it sit on the flat surface of the docking station that has a wire connecting to the electricity under the aluminum base.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT
The goal for GoPure is to bring back confidence while using Citibike in the city, but it isn’t just a sanitizing device for a healthier city, it is a concept of turning a boring looked object into something unique that applied on a bicycle docking station. Also, the material research shows that the most commonly used chemical cleaning supplies on the market can easily damage silicone, and foam these common soft materials applied on the bike’s handlebar. GoPure can be one of the great options to leave a clean handlebar for the next user with no damaged.

The three major materials used in this project are low carbon aluminum, battery system, and UVC technology. Using these reclaimed materials, I was able to create less impact on the environment. The bottom part of the process tree shows where the piece will be recycled and where is the cycle point.
